1 - Activity and theoretical support
1.1- Each student will make 1 modeled piece to choose from (a cup, an ornament, angel caller, etc.)
1.2- Each student will paint and work the surfaces on existing didactic pieces (tiles-Majolica) to practice engobes and the technique of sgraffito and application of colors.
2 - What is each element, activity, etc?
- Slip
- Engobes or Underglazes - less vivid or pastel colors
- Commercial and homemade enamels I. Oxides and Pigments.
- Most used techniques of modeling and type of clay.
- Single firing or firing in stages.
- Notions of "firing" low, medium and high temperatures. Cones.
- Clay state of leather and slips - leather & Slips.
Colors
- Coloring glazes or engobes: percentages of coloring oxides, or ceramic pigments.
- Biscuit - Bisque - cooking temperatures
- Glazes - Glazes - firing temperatures
- Difference between slip and glaze. The piece the desired aesthetic finish.
- Durability and impermeability. Enamel if it is opaque, and varnish or glaze if it is transparent.
- Commercial and homemade enamels - firing temperatures.
- Use of textures and stamps.
